Jim Root Garson 412

TRY IT

The Jim Root Garson 412 is an official DynIR from Jim Root, inspired by — and captured from — one of his original Carvin® 4×12 cabinets — a road-worn workhorse that defined his sound throughout Slipknot’s formative years. Used extensively during the band’s first album cycle, this cabinet was later retired from touring but remained a trusted studio companion and is now part of Slipknot’s touring museum — a true piece of heavy music history.

Constructed from solid birch ply and loaded with Carvin® 12-inch drivers, the Garson 412 was built for the extreme dynamics and punishing volume of early Slipknot shows. Its closed-back design and robust construction deliver a commanding low-end thump, a dense, throaty midrange, and a smooth, articulate top end that responds to every pick attack with surgical precision. The Carvin drivers are renowned for their tight transient response and broad frequency range, producing the raw aggression and clarity that became the foundation of Root’s early tone. The result is a cabinet that balances sheer power with dynamic control — brutal when pushed, yet remarkably detailed when you pull back.

To ensure total authenticity, Jim Root personally selected the microphones used for this capture — the Beyerdynamic® M201, SE Electronics® RN17, Sennheiser® MD421, Shure® SM57, Neumann® U67 (Tube), AKG® C414 XLII, Coles® 4038, and Royer® R-121. This world-class mic array captures every nuance of the Garson’s character, offering players a studio-grade tonal palette that mirrors Root’s own recording setup.

Available individually or as part of The Jim Root Trinity, the Garson 412 DynIR delivers the unmistakable power, texture, and history of Root’s earliest tone — aggressive, dynamic, and undeniably iconic.
